What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?

As I played more in college, realizing how much fun I had learning the game and improving at my position. Also, being around a lot of guys who play professionally now, I knew it was something I wanted to pursue.

What are your favorite moments from your football life?

My favorite moment was in the 2020 Camellia bowl when I had the game winning sack on Christmas Day, vs. Marshall. Earning scholarship was also a big moment, after I was a preferred walk on.

What are you looking to achieve as a football player going forward?

I’m excited to keep improving my game in every way possible and keep learning the intricacies of the game at the highest level.

If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?

I would probably choose Cam Newton, because he was an exciting player and I think he’s had a great journey. He’d be good to learn from but also seems fun to be around.

Which one of your family members inspires you the most and why?

Both of my parents, because of their hard work and overall approach towards excellence, when it comes to not just themselves but others as well.

What is your favorite defensive scheme and why?

I like the 4-3, because it’s very versatile and getting pressure with just rushing four d-lineman is extremely valuable.

What should we know about Eric Black the person?

That I’m not just a football player, and I strive to excel in all areas of my life. I’ve always enjoyed school, and I was lucky to receive my MBA through Stony Brook University, which will hopefully set me on a good path for my post-football career. I also enjoy playing video games and relaxing with some great friends I’ve made over the years.

What stands out about your film the most?

My pass rush ability, specifically the versatility of my game and the moves I’m able to make. I think my speed and motor stand out as well.

How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?

If I have a big challenge, I will handle it with logic and avoid impulsivity, as well as rely on people in my circle, whether that is family, friends, teammates, or coaches.

What would a team get in a player like you?

A player who is relentless and committed to always getting better. I love to learn all aspects of football so I am committed to on field mechanics as well as film in the classroom.

What do you love the most about the game of football?

I love how on every play, you get your 1 on 1 opportunity with the man across from you and you can make your team better. If everyone does their job with their 1 on 1, the team will have success. It is the biggest team sport there is.

Who is the most underrated player you’ve played with and why?

Taylor Riggins, because he was a very dominant defensive end who was smart, but also had many tools to his game.
