USFL Championship Preview: Can the Birmingham Stallions hold off the Philadelphia Stars to win it all? Can Case Cookus pull off the win over BHam?

The USFL will wrap up this weekend when the Birmingham Stallions take on the Philadelphia Stars in Canton, Ohio for the USFL Championship.

This league has been fun and this year and has truly given players a legit opportunity to get noticed and to make money in the process of playing the game they love.

While Birmingham has been the team to beat this year, they were flirting with a perfect season until they fell to the Houston Gamblers in week 9. If you are interested in watching the USFL Championship you need to know where it is played, so let’s look at the logistics.

Right now the game will be played on FOX and the Stallions are the favorite to win it all, but the Philadelphia Stars led by former Northern Arizona quarterback Case Cookus is hoping to hold off J’Mar Smith and the Stallions.

This year Cookus has thrown for 1,33 yards and connected on 12 touchdowns. He has only started 7 games and if he would have started all 9 he would have probably been the best quarterback in the league. Smith on the other hand has been tearing it up as well. He can kill you with his legs and his arm. He has thrown for 1,573 yards and 10 touchdowns in the same amount of starts as Cookus.

The league has been great, but if the Stars want to hold off the Stallions they are going to have to slow down Victor Bolden and Marlon Williams the two star wide receivers who have tore up the USFL since week 1. No one has really been able to slow down Birmingham this year besides Houston in week 9.

The good thing is the Stars have the best cornerback in the league. Channing Stribling is leading the USFL with 7 interceptions in 7 games played. He has averaging one pick a game, and will need to keep it up this weekend if the Stars want to get a win.

I am going to go out on a limb today and say the Philadelphia Stars get the upset win. I think Philadelphia can get the dub if they can control the clock and slow down J’Mar Smith.

I am going to predict the final score 27-21, Philadelphia and Channing Stribling is the MVP of the game after coming down with 2 picks. One for a pick six which seals the game late. Make sure you tune in and watch the game on July 3rd!
