What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?

I decided I wanted to be a football player as a young boy. I loved the way the game made me feel. I’ve decided more recently I want to play football still, because I have gifts from God that I believe can be sharpened over and over to help me use my platform for his glory, on top of my love for the game.

If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?

I would want to hang out with Russell Wilson, because I can see the passion burning in him. His passion for faith, football and family, is something that is admirable.

What sets you apart from other wide receivers?

What sets me apart from other WRs is my ability to make people miss and not go down easy. I also have great awareness of who is around me.

What are you looking forward to in your upcoming season?

I’m looking forward to giving my all one last time for Maine. I’m looking forward to showing all the work I put in (mentally, physically, spiritually).

What is your favorite route and why?

Easily a hinge route. It’s like a curl but back down the stem. I believe no one will ever guard me if I do my job correctly.

What should we know about Zavier Scott the person?

I am someone who is very critical of myself, but I do not let it affect me negatively. I look to always improve (mentally, physically, spiritually, emotionally), while accepting the work I’ve put in thus far has gotten me here.

What do you think are the keys to success on the football field?

The keys to success on the football field individually is making sure you are preparing your body for uncontrollable situations and reacting the right way to them. Success also comes with knowledge of the game, coverages, players, tendencies, all of that. It is a must to do all of these as well know the playbook inside and out. Taking care of one’s body consistently is another key to success.

How do you prepare for games?

I prepare for games by visualizing myself making plays. My biggest thing is preparing my mind, so I do not have to think when I play. Also by taking time throughout the week to draw gamplanned plays up over and over, understand how certain players play, and how to beat them.

How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?

I handle challenges head on, by figuring out what could have caused the challenge. I look internally on the football field and in life. I figure out what I could have done better and how I can do better next time a challenge comes.

What would a team get in a player like you?

A team would get a generational talent, dedicated to his craft. I believe God gave me these gifts for a reason and it’s my job to use them.

What are your favorite moments from your football life?

My favorite moments from football easily come from the relationships I have built because of it. From meeting kids from other schools, to team bonding events, to friendships that will last a lifetime, even seasonal friendships I have gotten from the game. Everything this game has given me means so much to me.
