Yesterday, in a very surprising move, the Seattle Seahawks released Pro Bowl linebacker Bobby Wagner a few hours after agreeing to trade Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos. The Sehawks are obviously in a rebuild and while this is the right move to make, the fans have to be really struggling to see this happen.
Let’s look at five teams that could use a Pro Bowl linebacker right now to help elevate them to Championship level.
Los Angeles Rams – I mean, they have Troy Reeder and Ernest Jones, but let’s just say they add a player like Bobby Wagner after winning the Super Bowl. Wagner may not get paid as much as he would on another team but if he is in the win mode now and the ability to play the team that cut you twice, makes you wonder why they wouldn’t at least kick the tires on the idea.
Chicago Bears – The Bears are known for nasty linebackers, and at this point, Wagner teamed up with Roquan Smith would be fun to watch. The Bears already have a filthy defense, but adding Wagner would be a great addition.
Dallas Cowboys – The Cowboys have Keanu Neal right now, he is a free agent, but imagine Wagner teamed up with Micah Parsons? If you want to win this is the type of move you make. Allow the veteran to help teach the rookie of the year. Parsons and Wagner would be pretty damn insane.
Denver Broncos – Yes, I know they already have Russell Wilson, but they are losing three inside linebackers to free agency. Why not get the former Seahawk who has a great relationship with Russell to join forces in Denver? I mean this move makes too much sense for the Broncos. Get the 8 time pro bowler and let him lead your defense.
New England Patriots – Who wouldn’t want to play for Bill Belichick? The Patriots have three Mike linebackers all up for free agency. Hightower, Collins and Langi are all free agents. The Patriots with Bobby Wagner would be pretty good. He is an immediate upgrade, and the Patriots did well last year with their free agency pick-ups.
