Odell Beckham Jr
Odell Beckham Jr. is expected to be released today, if he is cut he would be subject to the waiver wire. How does that work? Who has the first pick?

Odell Beckham Jr is expected to be released today, and he could end up going through the waiver wire. What does that mean? Who would have the first pick?

Well, this was the waiver wire order up until week 3, but after week three that changes in the NFL. The waiver wire priority changes in the season. After Week 3 of the regular season, waiver-wire priority matches the current NFL standings. So teams with the worst record will have the highest priority.

So what does that mean? That means the 0-8 Detroit Lions would have the first option at Odell Beckham Jr if they wanted him. Let’s look at the current NFL waiver wire order.

  1. Detroit Lions
  2. Miami Dolphins
  3. Houston Texans
  4. Jacksonville Jaguars
  5. New York Jets
  6. New York Giants
  7. Washington Football Team
  8. Philadelphia Eagles
  9. Seattle Seahawks
  10. Chicago Bears
  11. Atlanta Falcons
  12. San Francisco 49ers
  13. Minnesota Vikings
  14. Indianapolis Colts
  15. New England Patriots
  16. Denver Broncos
  17. Cleveland Browns
  18. Kansas City Chiefs
  19. Carolina Panthers
  20. Los Angeles Chargers
  21. Pittsburgh Steelers
  22. Cincinnati Bengals
  23. New Orleans Saints
  24. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  25. Buffalo Bills
  26. Las Vegas Raiders
  27. Dallas Cowboys
  28. Green Bay Packers
  29. Baltimore Ravens
  30. Los Angeles Rams
  31. Tennessee Titans
  32. Arizona Cardinals

As you can see many people are talking about the Saints as a potential landing spot, but Odell Beckham Jr. would have to pass through 22 other teams before that could happen.

When a player is on waivers, any team can place a “claim” on them if they want to add him to their 53-man roster. The team with the highest waiver wire priority acquires them and has to make a corresponding move to fit him on their 53-man roster.

Because the trade deadline past, every player cut MUST GO THROUGH THE WAIVERS, just like Desean Jackson yesterday. He was not claimed so he is a free agent to sign with any team.
