The Edmonton Eskimos were founded back in 1949, and they have never had a problem with the name until last year. The CFL franchise decided to change their name after a public outcry saying the name was racially insensitive.
In July, Edmonton removed themselves from the Eskimos name. Well, today they revealed a new name. They are going to be called the Elks. The team had several options like the Evergreens, Elements, Eclipse, Evergolds, Eagles, and Elkhounds but Elks has the best ring to it.
Since 1954, Edmonton has 14 Grey Cup Titles which makes them one of the biggest and dominant franchises in the CFL.
