Draft Diamonds Free Agent Interview: Vaughn Van Dame, Wide Receiver

Free Agent wide receiver Vaughn Van Dame recently sat down with Justin Berendzen of NFL Draft Diamonds. Check out his interview

Hello, I am @jrberendzen on Twitter and this is one of my free agent interviews where I ask very deserving free agents questions about the players themselves and about what a team would get in these players. All of these players should get picked up by NFL, CFL, and XFL teams and get a shot at being a career football player. So I hope you all read this interview and follow his journey on Twitter @CoachVaughnDame.

1.If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?

Chad Johnson AKA Ocho Cinco because he changed the game as we know it and the WR position because of how he used his feet. Before him, footwork wasn’t as big and he helped change the game to bring more speed and finesse.

2.What is your favorite workout?

My favorite workout in the weight room is probably bench or squat but I also very much so enjoy speed workouts since I consider that my strong suit.

3.Rank focus, footwork and skill based on what is most important to you as a football player and explain why?

I rank focus first because even if I’m a great athlete if I lack focus I can’t perform and think of my assignment and excel like I’m supposed to. I rank footwork next because at the WR position it’s so crucial now to have the footwork to get off the ball and out of breaks etc. Skill is something you essentially either have or you don’t but it can be developed too of course.

4.What is your mindset when you are on the football field?

Mindset is make plays PERIOD. No matter what my job is.

5.What do you think is the key to success on the football field?

Keys to success are focus and knowing your assignment as well as your opponent. Communication as well. Lack of these will not get you on the field regardless of athletic talent.

6.What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?

I think initially it was an escape from reality and a place I took out anger and it turned into a love and passion I can’t explain over time. It saved my life.

7.What would a team get in a player like you?

They would get someone who’s been through a lot but also experienced a lot. Getting cut due to injury getting cut due to lack of experience and also winning a championship at the pro level someone who’s seasoned in terms of experience. A vet.

8.What are your favorite moments from your football life?

First professional touchdown and winning a championship at the pro level after losing all of my college careers.

9.What do you hope to achieve as a football player going forward?

If I’ve achieved all I can I just hope my story inspires someone who may lack the intangibles to go out and chase their dreams that hard work and perseverance can get you somewhere no matter how many times you fail get back up and keep going.

10.What has been your biggest challenge in life?

Not graduating high school due to running the streets etc. and changing my life in JUCO to become a better man, student, athlete and using football as a platform to change my life and now being able to help kids and mentor them to show you can change your life too.

11.What is your favorite stadium that you have played in?

Ford Idaho Center

12.What type of energy do you bring onto the football field?

Everything I got every time I step on the field… That they gotta feel me type energy!
