Robert Saleh hired by New York Jets as their new head coach
By: NFLHeads2020
The New York Jets have at last made their move, former defensive coordinator Robert Saleh has been hired as the New York Jets.
Saleh is very much a defensive coach, being first hired in the NFL by the Houston Texans in 2005 as a Defensive Interim. Saleh continued to work for the Texans until 2010 in two capacities, defensive quality control coach, and assistant linebackers coach.
He then worked for both the Seahawks and the Jaguars as a defensive quality control coach and a linebackers coach respectively.
Finally, Saleh has worked as a defensive coordinator most recently from 2017-2020, in that time the 49ers had one of the single best defenses in the league, including a defense that was good enough to bring the Niners to Super Bowl 54 against the Kansas City Chiefs, featuring players such as Arik Armstead, DeForest Buckner, and Nick Bosa on the defensive line alone.
I am not sold on how much this move will do for the offense, but given that everywhere Saleh has worked the defense has been elite by the time he left, that bodes well for the future New York Jets defense.
