Did Atlanta Falcons do Raheem Morris dirty?

Raheem Morris is a very talented coach. I hope he is able to find a home soon, because he is talented.

Today, I am speaking as a Falcons fan, a fan who is not necessarily upset, but a little confused. Today, Arthur Smith was officially hired as the next Atlanta Falcons head coach, there are many reasons to be excited about this hiring, but a little black cloud hangs over the whole experience, and that is the future of Raheem Morris.

Morris did nothing less than a stellar job as the interim head coach, the defense while still nowhere near perfect definitely improved down the stretch, and the Falcons stopped losing embarrassing games in the fourth quarter, and that includes winning one in the fourth against the Carolina Panthers.

After this, I fully expected Morris to end up as the full time head coach after the season, after all Morris was working with a team that was not exactly talent filled at every position (that defensive line…), and came in after a four game skid. Morris also made it perfectly clear to Atlanta that he was interested in staying in Atlanta, and wanted to be the head coach.

I honestly have to wonder if Morris is a little pissed after all this. After everything he has done, the Falcons have come in and hired Arthur Smith, effectively demoting Morris back down to defensive coordinator.

Morris has recently interviewed in Jacksonville to take the defensive coordinator position, and I wonder if this experience in Atlanta will sway his decision on where to go. Losing Morris would be awful for the Falcons since it seems like he is the only coach who has a prayer of making this defense average, or at least watchable.
