49ers are promoting Mike McDaniel as OC and DeMeco Ryans as DC

Mike McDaniel is the unsung hero of the 49ers offense. He has worked as the run game coordinator the past several years.

The 49ers are making many changes to their staff, let’s start with the offensive side of the ball.

Mike McDaniel has been promoted from run game coordinator to offensive coordinator. I believe this is a spectacular move for multiple reasons, first of all the running game is always extremely strong no matter who is the starter be it Jeff Wilson, Raheem Mostert, or Jerick McKinnon.

Additionally, McDaniel has much experience with offense, in the past he has also worked as a wide receivers coach and an offensive assistant.

Lastly, McDaniel has been with Shanahan for years, he has worked with his offense on the Redskins, Browns, Falcons, and Niners. This is a great move that I think will make the 49ers very strong.

DeMeco Ryans is much newer to the coaching world. Ryans used to be a player in the NFL, being drafted by the Texans with the 33rd overall pick in 2006.

Ryans played for both the Texans and the Eagles, making two pro bowls and one all-pro award with the Texans.

Ryans has been with the 49ers coaching staff since 2017 as both a defensive quality control coach, and an inside linebackers coach.

I am not sure how well Ryans will work, especially after having to follow up a big act like Robert Saleh, but he has the talent there and it is completely possible for him to have success.
