Former UAB football player Carlos Stephens arrested for capital murder
The University of Alabama-Birmingham has transformed their program to be a respected football program once again. They do not need any bad press, and this should not reflect the football team, but it does unfortunately.
Carlos Stephens, a 22 year-old student from Alabaster, Alabama was arrested for the homicide of UAB student Destiny Washington. Stephens is not longer a student athlete at UAB, but was still a student on campus.
On December 19th, Stephens turned himself into police and is being charged with capital murder of Washington. The murder happened in the parking lot of the campus.
A statement released by the university says it’s believed the victim was meeting someone to sell headphones.
Stephens was a 5’7 running back who played his freshman year for the Blazers. Stephens took visits to Jacksonville State, Auburn and some Division II schools, but didn’t get any scholarship offers from any of them before attending UAB.
