2021 NFL Draft Prospect: Kellen Mond, QB, Texas A&M University

Kellen Mond Draft Breakdown Texas A&M
Texas A&M quarterback Kellen Mond has had a solid career for the Aggies and NFL teams will be dissecting his game in Mobile this year.

Kellen Mond was a former top 100 prospect in the country. The dual-threat gunslinger from Texas A&M has had his ups and downs with the Aggies in his career, but he has turned into a promising quarterback prospect.

Earlier this month, he was being mocked in the first round by some major news websites. I am not sold on putting him in the first round right now, but if he shines at the Reese’s Senior Bowl, maybe a team would take him earlier than expected.

Going into his senior year, the dual-threat quarterback had 8,847 passing yards and 1,426 rushing yards in his career. He has prototypical size at 6’3 and this year he has completed 64.3 percent of his passes which is pretty impressive.

The best part of Monds game is he is becoming a much better decision maker. He has wheels, he can kill you with his feet and abuse you as a runner. He is not as fast as a Lamar Jackson or Kyler Murray, but trust me he will break an 80 yard run on you if you are out of position.

Mond has improved his completion percentage every year at A&M. He has went from 51.5 percent to 64.3 percent. In 2020, he has 1,488 yards passing 16 touchdowns and just 2 interceptions. That is impressive. He has 68 career passing touchdowns, to 26 interceptions. If you add in the 19 rushing touchdowns he has over 85 career touchdowns which makes him a draftable quarterback.

NFL Draft Diamonds Scouting Notes

Kellen Mond has some Josh Allen similarities. Mond maybe more accurate so far in college than Allen was when coming out of Wyoming, but Mond does not have the arm strength Allen does. Mond is trending in the right direction and I have a feeling a team is going to get a steal in him. The San Antonio, Texas native will have a solid career. I think an NFL team would be crazy not to draft him at this point. He could wind up being the next Dak Prescott. – Damond Talbot, NFL Draft Diamonds, Owner
