Draft buzz: Catching up with Ball State WR Justin Hall

Ball State wide receiver Justin Hall recently sat down with NFL Draft Diamonds write Jon-Michael Salter.

Ball State Wide-out, Justin Hall, is a big play waiting to happen. Even with his smaller build, Hall has a way of playing bigger, than most. Rather it is through the air, or on the ground, returning a punt or a kickoff. Just put the ball in Halls, hands and stand back. When you watch the tape, it’s hard not to notice, the 5’9 Senior. With 219 career catches, and nearly 2,300 yards to his name, it’s easy to see the potential he brings to any NFL roster. I sat down with the rising star over the weekend, and got to pick his brain. Asking him about the idea of playing at the next level? his take on the talented players around him? and what sets him apart from other talents, on the football field?

” As far as the team and the guys around me, I think we are just a talented bunch of guys. We are good on both sides of the ball. We have the best receivers in college, as a group. I know we have on of the best running-backs, in college football. We have talent all over. Our defense has some dogs out their too. We probably have the best corners and safeties around. So when I hear people say we play for a smaller school, or we don’t play teams as good as some, I say let’s play. I say we see them on the field , I don’t care about the outside noise of it all, let’s just play football, and that’s what we do.”

continuing on he touched on the recent talk of him, playing at the next level?

“I do not care, Honestly, I don’t . To this point I feel like, while it’s nice to know that I am getting a buzz, that doesn’t mean anything. I am still focused on what’s in front of me. That’s the season, that’s my team right now, I can’t control what the future holds. So I stay focused on today. I stay focused on what I can do. The rest of it is just talk, and I don’t put any stock in words. When I get to that point, then i can talk about that.”

Hall, has been a real problem for defenses, since getting to Ball State. Capable of taking it the distance at any time, Hall has a unique ability to get open. He also can take a jet sweep, and hurt a defense, that way. In simple terms, he is a match up nightmare. I asked the Georgia native, what set him apart from other talents?

“I feel like as far as what sets me apart from other talents, is my work habits. I know everyone says it, but I know it ain’t just words with me, I work my butt off. That and the versatility I can bring any team at the next level. I know I can help in the passing game, I can help in the running game, shoot I will do whatever it takes to get the job done on the field. I will do what it takes to really be a problem for defenses, and help my team out. I think what makes me different is what is I have never had anything handed to me, and bust my butt to get to where I am. I know I am a dog out there on the field, I really am a locker room guy, where I am a good teammate, and I work my tail off.”

Earlier this week I briefly spoke to a scouting source, about the talent at Ball State, as well as his take on Hall, and what he can bring to an NFL team?

“I like those guys. I really do, the talent at Ball State, has been eye opening. They are stacked on both sides of the ball. Guys I could see being good pros maybe. As far as Justin Hall, man that kid can ply huh? I like him man, I do. I like to see him with the ball in his hands. He is really a big play, or a touchdown waiting to happen. I knw he hasn’t scored a lot, but that doesn’t take away from his talent, and what he brings to the field. I think he has a chance to be a draft contender one day. I don’t like to guess, but I think he could be a real talent, at the next level.”

As far as playing at the next level, you never know what NFL scouts are thinking. But I promise you when they put on the tape, they will love what they see. As a real matchup problem for defenses, in all areas, Hall has the look of an NFL star in the making. I guess time will tell, and taking a note from Hall, I won’t worry about it, until it happens. But when it does, Hall is going to be a fun player to watch at the next level.
