2021 NFL Draft Prospect: Cameron Sample, DT, Tulane University

Cameron Sample Tulane 2021 Draft Breakdown
Tulane defensive tackle Cameron Sample is a big boy that has impressed NFL scouts. His stock could rise in Mobile.

Tulane has some dawgs on the defensive line and Cameron Sample is one of the big reasons why they are having success. The 6’3, 280 pound pass rusher has been disruptive all year for the Green Wave.

Sample has played in 10 games this year and racked up 4 sacks and 48 tackles. He has 6.5 tackles for loss on the season which is his new career high.

Sample was recently invited to the Reese’s Senior Bowl, and he will impress NFL teams. He has 158 tackles in his career and 20 tackles for loss. His 9.5 sacks in his career are solid but more importantly him 7 pass deflections are equally impressive.

Throughout his career, Sample has played in 45 games. This year’s defensive tackle class is not very good. Sample could get a huge boost with a great game at the Senior Bowl.

Sample has had to fight through a knee injury that happened in 2018 and slowed him down in 2019, but he has dominated 2020. So that should not be an issue moving forward.

NFL Draft Diamonds Scouting Notes

The defensive tackles in the 2021 NFL Draft are not very promising. When you look at their film it is a very limited group of players. Cameron Sample of Tulane is a guy that is rising up boards because of his athleticism. Sample does something that I love when breaking down film. If he cannot get to the quarterback he puts his hands up. He tries to block a pass and he has been fairly successful at it in his career. He has 7 career pass break ups and he had 5 last year alone. This year he did not do that as much, but they have used him on special teams because he can get up there. I think the Senior Bowl will be huge for Sample. He will move up the boards with a good performance. – Damond Talbot, NFL Draft Diamonds Owner
