Silas Kelly is an underdog. He is a DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH. Who is Silas Kelly? Well, this coming week you will find out who Silas Kelly is! Turn on ESPN and watch their game against Louisiana-Lafayette and do you know what you will see? You will see a linebacker who plays a lot like Kiko Alonso. A high motored player with a great hair cut, and in on damn near every play.
Teddy Gallagher and Silas Kelly have become two of the best linebackers in the country. They play at a high level and are super competitive. In the NCAA right now Coastal Carolina ranks 6th in team sacks, 10th in interceptions, 14th in tackles for loss, and 15th in turnovers forced. This defense is a top 20 defense in my opinion. Everyone is going to talk about Tarron Jackson, and big C.J. Brewer up front, but these linebackers have been pretty damn impressive too.
Silas Kelly was just a 2 star recruit out of high school. They claimed he was the 52nd best player in Maryland and boy were they wrong. The 6040, 230 pound linebacker has been bringing the hammer since his redshirt freshman season.
Kelly was an honorable mention in the Sun Belt after starting 10 games as a redshirt freshman. He finished third in the team on tackles with 75. He averaged 6.8 tackles a game too.
That first year solidified his position on the team. Since his redshirt freshman year, he has racked up 171 total tackles. He only played in 2 games in 2019 too. This year in just three games he has 21 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, and 3 sacks. He has 5 career sacks but this year he is getting the quarterback because the big guys up front are opening lanes for him.
Silas is a sleeper, he is an underdog, but he is a hard worker. NFL teams would be getting someone who is relentless. Watch this game against Louisiana-Lafayette. Coastal Carolina is reportedly an underdog going into the game. I think they will shock the world on National Television.
NFL Draft Diamonds Scouting Notes:
What do you look for in a linebacker? I will tell you what I look for. I look for leadership, Kelly possesses that. He is a member of the CCU football program’s team leadership council. Another thing I look for is smarts. Kelly has earned Dean’s List with a 3.5 GPA or higher every year and was on the President’s list (4.0 GPA) last year. Then you look for production. Silas Kelly produces every time he is on the field. He looks to be getting better every game. The last thing you look for is motor. When you watch the kid on film, he does not stop. He is wired differently. Both he and Gallagher are fun to watch. The Mullet Menaces, yep I just nicknamed them. These two kids have a fan in me. – Damond Talbot, NFL Draft Diamonds, Owner
