Salters 7-Round Mock Draft: Philadelphia Eagles 2.0

Eagles Mock Draft Jon Michael Salter
Jon Michael Salter aka AverageJawn recently broke down the Philadelphia Eagles roster and created his 2nd Annual Eagles 7 Round Mock Draft.

Technically it is still early in the NFL season, and as things continue to move slowly, towards mid-season. The Philadelphia Eagles, are in the thick of things, in the NFC East race. Despite an Ugly 1-4-1 record, the birds are literally a half-game out of first place. With a chance to take the lead again tonight, with a matchup against the rival, New York Giants. While the embattled Eagles, keep their eyes on the prize, the front office, has definitely kept an eye on the 2021 draft. With all the injuries the team has gone through over there last few years, it is imperative that Howie Roseman, get it right this year. With that said, here is a simple look at a few players, that could both interest the team, and help build a bright future.

1) CB Patrick Surtain, Alabama

In my first mock-draft, I picked Surtain, number 1. After watching more tape on the kid, I have decided to stick to my guns. The 6’2 corner has all the tools, to be a legit number one CB in the NFL. Adding a talent like him, to learn under CB Darius Slay would help with the future, while solidifying the islands, on the Eagles defense.

2) LB Monty Rice, Georgia

The more I watch this kids tape, the more I like what I see. Capable of being a true 3-down backer, Rice has the skill to help stuff the run, and is no slouch in the passing game. Watching him diagnose plays, before and while they are happening maybe his biggest skill. He is a true leader and would be a huge get for the Birds defense. The team has lacked a true general, in the middle of the defense, since letting LB Jordan Hicks, getaway in free agency. Rice, could be an immediate upgrade to a team in huge need of a second-level star.

3) DE Patrick Jones, Pitt

That’s right, three picks, all on defense. To say the Eagles, lack defensive help, would be an understatement. Although the Eagles, have 3 solid DE’s on the Team, Brandon Graham, is getting up there in age, so adding another potential stud to an already stout defensive line, would be genius. Enter Jones, the 6-5 265 LB. Edge rusher, is a demon coming off the edge in the ACC. The addition of a kid like Jones, would give the birds legit depth, and a future star, in the making. Capable of helping in the run game, and rushing the passer, Jones, could be the right pick in 2021.

5) WR Rashod Bateman, Minnesota

Bateman is considered a borderline first to third-round pick, but with the way the season, has looked for other talents, it is simple to see the star, get pushed down in draft stock. In this case, the Philadelphia Eagles, get the fortune of landing, one of the best all-around wide0outs, in this Year’s draft. He has been likened to Tennessee Titan, WR Carl Davis (WR the Eagles were high on a few years back), the 6’2 215 Lb. WR could serve as the Eagles, future number 1, WR. Giving franchise QB Carson Wentz, another weapon to help grow with for years to come.

5) S Richard LeCounte, Georgia

LeCounte maybe my favorite prospect, in the2021 draft. Much like 4th round pick in 2020, (Kvonn Wallace) LeCounte, does not get the hype, some players, have received this year. Not to say the young star isn’t deserving of the attention. For some reason, he has continued to be overlooked, by draft media alike. I will not make the same mistake Adding the Future star, could really help solidify, the defensive backend, for years to come. Keep your eye on him.

6) C Josh Myers, Ohio State

Despite not playing a down this year (yet), do not forget, the road grader, that Myers is and can be, at the next level. With All-pro Center Jason Kelce, likely on his last years in the League, the birds should continue to look for his replacement. Myers could be that man.

7) K Evan Mcpherson, Florida

Yup, I said it, the Eagles, draft a new leg this coming year. The one thing that the birds front office, love, is competition. This pick isn’t to say, Jake Elliott, loses his job, but Mcpherson is surely capable of making a true run, for the starting gig. He has a heck of a leg, and most importantly, has been someone the Florida Gators, could trust in big moments. The Birds need that at all phases of the game.

I would love to hear your thoughts on these draft picks, who do you think the Eagles, should be looking at. Tweet me, and tell me about your choice, and I will take a look, if I like it I will put it on my next Mock-draft. @JonM_Salter #AverageJawn
