2021 NFL Draft Prospect Interview: Cole Chancey, RB, Harding University

Harding’s workhorse RB Cole Chancey recently sat down with Draft Diamonds writer Jimmy Williams

Tell us about your university/college. What was your major/minor? How is campus life?

I attend Harding University where I major in kinesiology (teacher licensure). This University is one to none, the community and people are hard to come by. Everywhere you go on campus there are wonderful people in sight. It’s like one big family on a campus with the Lord in its presence.

What do your teammates say is your best quality?

If I had to say, I would say my toughness is something complimented more than anything else. Along with yards gained after contact

What kind of role do you see yourself in on the team? What scheme and/or position suits your skill set?

At Harding we run the triple option. As the b-back in this offense there is a big role like any other position in the offense. The offense has to have every person clicking to have success, it’s a very disciplined offense. My role is to play full speed in every aspect, whether it be carrying out a fake, carrying the ball, or making a block. It should all look the same, in doing that it helps out the people around me. If there are tough yards to get, I want to do all I can to block, run, or fake to get it.

Who is the best player you have ever played against in college?

I can’t put a label on this, because there has been plenty. I played against a great player (unsure of name) freshman year from Ferris State who left as a junior and still got drafted. He played D-Line, so I thought that was impressive.

Which one of your teammates impresses you the most?

There are plenty that come to mind, I could name anyone on my team. If I had to choose, I’d say my QB Preston Paden.

Describe a time in your life when you were able to overcome a struggle.

There’s been a lot of difficult times in my life, but I’m blessed to have never really been in this position.

If you didn’t play football, what other sport would you play?

I would have to say wrestling would be my other college sport if I didn’t play football. I was a 4-time wrestling champion in high school.

What is something that you are most proud of? What would you say is your biggest achievement?

Making the right choice in coming to Harding is something I’m most proud of along with my work ethic. I’ve met some of the best people in my life that will always leave a mark on me. I play with the best teammates and coaches you could wish for.

I haven’t met my goal of an achievement yet on the football field (national champ), but I would have to say the respect/trust from my teammates/coaches is a big achievement to have compared to the accolades.

Cole was one of 500 plus to make our Small School Rankings in 2021

Describe one of the most memorable plays of your collegiate career.

I would say my first collegiate touchdown, it’s one of those things you’ll always remember. It was blocked perfectly and having your teammates come up to you after to celebrate are bittersweet moments.

Do you have a favorite athlete or professional team? Is there a player that you model your game after?

I’m too indecisive for that one, there’s plenty to choose from. I don’t really model after anyone, if I was to feel compared to someone would say Mike Alstott

Who is your favorite music artist? What gets you pumped before a game?

It’s a toss up here but I guess I would say Riley Green.

The locker room speeches, and self motivation.. there’s always something to prove.

What is your favorite comfort food?

I’m not sure I have a favorite, anything is good to me most of the time.

Do you have a favorite movie or actor?

Too indecisive on this one but I’m a fan of any Mark Wahlberg movies

What do you do in your spare time? Do you have any hobbies?

Really anything outside: golfing, fishing, 4wheelers, etc…. you name it

Who or what motivates you the most?

The people around me
