Overall draft grade: B-

Round grades:

RD1 = C-

RD8 = N/A

Draft class:

  • RD1 WR DeJon Brissett
  • RD1 OL Theren Churchill
  • RD2 LB Jack Cassar
  • RD2 DL Samuel Acheampong
  • RD3 OL Dylan Giffen
  • RD5 RB Dion Pellerin
  • RD6 WR Samuel Baker

Comments:

Argos took “their guy” 2nd. Brissett had a lot of attention including teams in the top 5, so it makes sense for Toronto to “reach” to draft him. While others are concerned about Brissetts injury history & lack luster numbers, he has all the tools. It’s a risky pick. Churchill selection shocked many. I really like this prospect, could be a very good prospect for Toronto. Both 1st round picks are considered “reaches”. Cassar was a solid pick, getting Acheampong was a gift (just like 2019 M.Boateng). Argos taking full advantage of the territorial picks. Dylan Giffen could be the best prospect in the end got Toronto. A very good leader who has ability. Just needs time. Pellerin pick was another late gem. Argos did well. However both picks in round 1 are reached & that grades out lower.

Stavros Katsantonis is a hard-hitting defensive back with big play making abilities.

Hamilton Ticats
Highest graded round: #4 (B+).
Best graded/value pick: DB Stavros Katsantonis, UBC (round 4).
Worst graded round: #5 (C-).
Risky pick: OL Joseph Bencze, McMaster.
Overall draft grade: B

Round grades:

RD1 = C+
RD2 = B-
RD3 = B
RD4 = B+
RD5 = C-
RD6 = B-
RD7 = B+
RD8 = C+

Draft class:

  • RD1 OL Coulter Woodmansey
  • RD1 DE Mason Bennett
  • RD2 LB Bailey Feltmate
  • RD3 WR Tyler Ternowski
  • RD4 DB Stavros Katsantonis
  • RD5 OL Joseph Bencze
  • RD6 DB Jean Ventose
  • RD7 K JJ Molson
  • RD8 DL/LS Tom Schnitzler

Comments:

Hamilton reached on Woodmansey. He’s one tough SOB, but big concerns with his foot speed. Mason Bennett fell into Ticats lap. Great pick there. Feltmate is a tackling machine, keep an eye on him. The rest of the draft the Ticats did well. Stealing Katsantonis (who lacks size) but will make his mark. Ventose, Molson & Schnitzler are late round gems.

Ketel Asse is a mauling offensive lineman that will be a stud in the CFL.

Ottawa REDBLACKS
Highest graded round: #8 (A+).
Best graded/value pick: OL Ketel Asse, Laval.
Worst graded round: #6 (C).
Risky pick: LB Brad Cowan, Wilfred Laurier.
Overall draft grade: B

Round grades:

RD1 = B
RD2 = B+
RD3 = N/A
RD4 = B
RD5 = C+
RD6 = C
RD7 = C+
RD8 = A+

Draft class:

  • RD1 DB Adam Auclair
  • RD2 Michael Hoecht
  • RD2 Dan Basambombo
  • RD4 OL Jakub Szott
  • RD5 DB Terrance Abrahams-Webster
  • RD6 LB Brad Cowan
  • RD7 DE Reshaan Davis
  • RD8 OL Ketel Asse

Comments:

While some consider Auclair a reach in round one, he is a gamer. This is a solid pick. No reach imo (with many top prospects off to NFL). Auclair will be an impact player in the CFL. Hoecht is a risk (signed in NFL) but worth the pick. Good value. Getting Reshaan Davis late was good value as well. But the STEAL of the draft was getting KETEL ASSE in the 8TH ROUND. Ottawa now has a very motivated prospect in Asse. Teams will regret passing on him. Ottawa did well.

Marc-Antoine Dequoy is an athletic freak and even though he is in the NFL right now, he has a bright future.

Montreal Alouettes
Highest graded round: #2 (B+).
Best graded/value pick: DB Marc-Antoine Dequoy, Montreal.
Worst graded round: #7 (C-).
Risky pick: SB Vincent Alessandrini, Concordia.
Overall draft grade: B-

Round grades:

RD1 = N/A
RD2 = B+
RD3 = B
RD4 = C+
RD5 = N/A
RD6 = B+
RD7 = C-
RD8 = B

Draft class:

  • RD2 DB Marc Antoine Dequoy
  • RD2 DL Cameron Lawson
  • RD3 OL Carter O’Donnell
  • RD3 DL Benoit Marion
  • RD4 LB Brian Harelimana
  • RD6 OL Andrew Becker
  • RD6 LB Jersey Henry
  • RD7 SB Vincent Alessandrini
  • RD8 DL Brock Gowanlock
  • RD8 RB Colton Klassen

Comments:

Despite Dequoy signing in the NFL, the Als taking him was a no brainer. Danny got his guy. Lawson was a great value pick as well. Especially in a thin DT draft. O’Donnell could turn out to be the steal of the draft (could be the next Dakota Shepley). Really like Als taking Harelimana & Becker. Great value picks. Good value with Gowanlock. Klassen is a late wildcard. Has the speed, could turn some heads.
