Five teams that need to sign K Stephen Gostkowski

The Tennessee Titans make the most sense in my opinion to sign Gostkowski but will they be the team that lands him?

Yesterday the New England Patriots took another step towards their rebuild. It is a move that helps the salary-cap-strapped team create more space, but leaves a notable void at the position.

Gostkowski, who is coming off left hip surgery that shortened his 2019 season to four games, has been the team’s full-time kicker since 2006, when he replaced Adam Vinatieri. He is the franchise’s all-time leading scorer with 1,775 points.

He will now look to find a new home and I found 5 teams that could use his services right now.

Miami Dolphins – Dolphins get to play the Patriots twice a year, and they have Brian Flores who has familiarity with Gostkowski. The Patriots to Dolphins trend has been pretty popular this year. I could see this move happening as well. The Dolphins have Jason Sanders who was a 7th round draft pick, but can you honestly pass on a legend like Gostkowski?

Chicago Bears – I know Eddy Pineiro is a fun player to watch, but the Bears have struggled with kickers over the years. With Gostkowski you no longer need to worry about your field goal kicker. He was automatic for years, and as long as he is healthy he should be able to find work quickly.

Los Angeles Rams – The Rams do not have a kicker right now. Greg Zuerlein is currently a free agent and I could see Gostkowski doing well for the Rams. They are the only team in the NFL right now that does not have a kicker on their roster so this definitely makes the most sense.

Tennessee Titans – The Titans released their starting kicker earlier this year and only have AAF kicker Greg Joseph on their roster. I think Vrabel being Gostkowski’s former teammate makes sense. Vrabel and Gostkowski are likely close and they could use a kicker. The Titans also have cap room. I think this is his most likely destination.

Atlanta Falcons – They have Younghoe Koo from the AAF, and he was very impressive when it came to onsides kicks, but he is not the kicker that Gostkowski is. I think the Falcons special teams unit is suspect all the way around from their kicker to their punter. I think Gostkowski would be a great fit in the ATL!
