NFL veteran pass rusher pens a letter coming out as bi-sexual

Ryan Russell was a solid pass rusher and former draft pick of the Dallas Cowboys. He is now taking a huge step in coming out as a bi-sexual.

Defensive end Ryan Russell, an NFL free agent, came out as bisexual in his own words in an article published Thursday on ESPN.com.

Russell, who was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys and played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, said he decided to make his sexual identity public to be the best version of himself.

“Have I lied to teammates, coaches, trainers, front-office executives and fans about who I am? Not exactly. But withholding information is a form of deceit,” he said. “And I want the next part of my career — and life — steeped in trust and honesty.”

“My truth is that I’m a talented football player, a damn good writer, a loving son, an overbearing brother, a caring friend, a loyal lover, and a bisexual man.”

The 27-year-old is currently an NFL free agent, and says his last job interview with a team made him realize he needed to make his sexual preferences public.

“Out of love, admiration and respect, I want the next team to sign me valuing me for what I do and knowing who I truly am.”

If Ryan Russell is signed by a team he will be the only openly gay player in the NFL, MLB, NBA or NHL.
