Could the Jets trade Leonard Williams? His contract is huge in 2019
According to ESPN reporter Rich Cimini, there is chatter around the league that new interim GM/Head Coach Adam Gase could be looking to move on from Leonard Williams, the teams former top 10 pick. Williams will be a free agent after the season.
Williams is due to make a guaranteed $14.2M in the final year of his contract.
The Jets have $32.5M invested in rookie Quinnen Williams and $17M invested in Henry Anderson — all guaranteed money. Add in that the 14.2 million for Williams is guaranteed and it makes you wonder if he could be on the way out. The problem is will someone be willing to take him with that hefty contract? He is only 24 years old, and in his career, he has 17 sacks and 220 combined tackles.
If Gase did not want to pay Le’Veon Bell according to reports, so why would he want to pay almost 50 million this year in defensive lineman? I am not sure but someone could offer up a late round pick for Williams if they are trying to rid themselves of his contract.
