2016 NFL Draft Scouting Notes: Laremy Tunsil, LT, Ole Miss

By Lijah Spencer (@tweaked74)

Finishing up the Tackle position in scouting notes we take a look at an underclassman who may just be the best tackle in the country. Here are my notes

Laremy Tunsil. 6’5. 305 lbs. LT. Ole Miss

The Positives

1) A very aggressive tenacious blocker

2) Uses good footwork

3) Uses his hands very well at the point of attack

4) Plays with good leverage

The Negatives

1) His size may be more suited to play Guard in the NFL, but he does have the skillset to play tackle.

2) Some recent off the field questions.

Laremy Tunsil is a very aggressive Left Tackle who attacks his man with good use of his hands and good power. His footwork is above average, allowing him to get in front of his man and stay in front of him. He is good blocking against both speed and power rushers, and once he beats his man, he looks for the next to engage. At 6’5 he may be sized more for a Guard at the NFL level, though he has the skillset to play tackle, and he wouldn’t be the first 6’5 guy to succeed doing so. He does have a very recent arrest, and the story is unclear at this point, though it looks as though he hit his stepfather while defending his mother. There is no guarantee that he declares for the draft, though if he does it looks at this point like he would be one of the top picks at OT.
