Eagles VP of Football Operations says trading up in a draft is not a good idea
The Philadelphia Eagles have been rumored by many to make a strong push to try to land Marcus Mariota. Mariota is a very solid player that was at the University of Oregon with Chip Kelly, but is he worth trading up for?
The Eagles vice president Howie Roseman did not mention Mariota’s name, but did talk about trading up in the draft at the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference. Roseman says the team usually trading down makes out better than the team giving up the farm.
“When you’re looking at trading up, at some point, your board drops off so dramatically in terms of how you evaluate that player,” Roseman said, via Philly.com. “But the history of trading up for one player, when you look at those trades, isn’t good for the team trading up and putting a lot of resources into it.”
Is Roseman trying to send a message to the Eagles fan base and Chip Kelly? I actually agree with Roseman in this scenario, because trading up for a player can be super risky, especially if you are giving up your future.
