Former NFL WR Donte Stallworth told students about his DUI crash that took a man’s live
Student athletes have heard many times about the dangers of drinking and driving, and binge drinking in general, but when Stallworth talked with a gymnasium full of Moravian College student athletes Sunday afternoon, the room was nearly silent.
His story was touching:
When he got to the police station after the accident and learned that Reyes had died, Stallworth said he broke down crying.
“It wasn’t for my sake I was crying,” he said. “Mr. Reyes at that time had a 15-year-old daughter. I kept thinking he will never see her graduate from high school, and from college. He will never walk her down the aisle, he will never hold his grandkids. And at every one of those moments in her life, she’ll think of me. She’ll think of that accident, and that I killed her father.”
He urged the student athletes to “make good decisions.”
“You have your whole lives ahead of you,” he said. “In my mind, that night, I was going out for a couple of drinks with my friends, then going home, packing my bags, and starting a new season in Cleveland. Then just like that, it was all gone. My $30 million contract was gone, my season was gone. Instead, this is what I was doing.”
