Formations Fantasy Football Review: Miami Dolphins Edition

The Miami Dolphins have many talented players on their team but struggled with off the field issues. The Dolphins hope they’ve put all of their issues behind them as they look forward to 2014. Which of their players can help you with your fantasy team?

Star: Mike Wallace (WR)

13 Stats: 73 catches-930 yards-5 TD

Why He’s a Star: Mike Wallace signed a mega-deal with the Miami Dolphins but struggled to live up to the money. One of the biggest problems with Wallace was that he was not used effectively in their offense. This year, Wallace is under the tutelage of offensive coordinator Bill Lazor who helped Desean Jackson reach career numbers. While I don’t expect Jackson’s numbers from last year, I see a big improvement for Wallace.

Avoid: Knowshon Moreno (RB)

13 Stats: 241 carries-1038 yards-10 TDs, 60 catches-548 yards-3 TDs (with Denver)

Why to Avoid: Moreno had a career year with the Broncos last year. However, he struggled to find a job this offseason. He eventually landed with the Dolphins, but do not expect anything close to his Bronco numbers. Lamar Miller is very talented and should see more playing time in the new Dolphins offense.

Sleeper: Lamar Miller (RB)

Why He’s A Sleeper: Big things were expected of Lamar Miller last year with the Dolphins. Yet, he really struggled in the Dolphins system. Even though he is in a RBBC with the above-mentioned Moreno, expect Miller to see the bulk of the work. This could finally be the breakout year for the 23 year old.

IDP to Watch: Oliver Vernon (DL)

13 Stats: 46 tackles-11 assists-11.5 sacks

Why: Vernon saw a big leap in his sophomore season with 11.5 sacks. Another plus is that Vernon had above average tackle numbers. If he continues to increase his tackle and sack production, Vernon could inch closer to a DL1 status.
