Andy Reid is optimistic the team sign Alex Smith to long term deal

Andy Reid joined NFL Network’s “NFL AM” on Tuesday to suggest that his starting signal-caller wouldn’t become a free agent after this season.

Andy Reid tells @NFL_AM the Chiefs are in ‘open communication’ with Alex Smith on a new contract. ‘I’m sure something will get done.’

“Well, there’s open communication between both parties. Now, I’m not in that business anymore — that’s (general manager) John Dorsey’s side of it — but there’s been open communication,” Reid said.

“I’ve always believed that if there’s open communication, then normally good things happen. So, I’m sure something will get done. I can’t put a time frame on that, but I’m sure something will get done.”

The Chiefs better lock up their quarterback, he was very solid last year and led the team to the playoffs and to one of their best starts ever.
