Seattle Seahawks sign big bodied CFL wide-out

The Seattle Seahawks signed former Winnipeg Blue Bombers wideout Chris Matthews to a free-agent contract on Tuesday, according to multiple reports.

Matthews, who played his college ball for Kentucky, broke out in his first season in Winnipeg in 2012, catching 81 passes for 1,192 yards and 7 touchdowns en route to winning the Canadian Football League’s Most Outstanding Rookie Award.

The 6-foot-5 and 227 pounds, immediately becomes the largest receiver on the Hawks’ roster. And with the team presumably set to part ways with former star Sidney Rice to free up more than $7 million in salary cap space, Matthews will have an opportunity to compete for a job as a red-zone threat for quarterback Russell Wilson.

The Seahawks struck gold with Brandon Browner from the CFL, could Matthews be the next.
