Texans considering former Bears coach Lovie Smith for head coach
It took only ten minutes after Gary Kubiak was fired for the Texans to name their interim head coach. He was already in the building and has previous coaching experience. The Texans gave Wade Phillips the keys to the car, and he will have a little time to try to make an impact. He will he considered but the owner Bob McNair made sure to mention the team is considering Lovie Smith.
McNair said the Texans are seeking a coach with NFL experience. He acknowledged that former Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith, who was born in Texas, is already a candidate.
“Some of people we’ll visit with are in coaching situations now, so this will be held on a confidential basis,” McNair said.
He added: “We’ll give Wade an opportunity to interview for the position, as well as a number of other people.”
