Two Falcons are named NFC Players of the Week

matt ryanToday the NFL announced their players of the week, and two Atlanta Falcons were named on the list.

NFC Offensive Player of the week was Matt Ryan. Ryan had a career day against New Orleans, becoming the Falcons all-time leader in touchdown passes (156) while also setting the franchise record for total passing yards in a single game with 448. He completed 31 of 43 passes (72.1 percent) for 448 yards with three touchdowns and a 128.8 passer rating. Ryan has led the Falcons to a 35-2 record when he posts a passer rating of 100-or-higher and a 19-1 mark when throwing three-or-more touchdowns. His 448 passing yards were the second most by any quarterback on kickoff weekend without throwing an interception in NFL history.

NFC Defensive player of the week was DeAndre Levy of the Detroit Lions. This is the first time Levy has won this award, but boy is he turning into a solid linebacker. Linebacker DeAndre Levy was the choice and it’s the first time he’s been so honored by the league. Levy had 10 tackles against the Giants on Monday and added an interception that bounced off several body parts and nearly hit the ground before Levy was able to secure it.

NFC Special Teams player of the week was Matt Bryant. Bryant connected on a 51-yard field goal to tie the game at 34 as time expired in the fourth quarter. He then split the uprights with a 52-yard game winner in overtime. Bryant’s overtime boot was the 19th game winner of his career and his eighth as a Falcon. It was also his second-longest game-winning kick since joining the Falcons.
