Both states that legalized marijuana will face off in the Super Bowl

While I would not usually write about something to this nature, I thought it was pretty interesting to see that both Colorado and Washington are the only two states with legalized recreational marijuana in the country; and both will have a team in the Super Bowl.

The Seattle Seahawks have had quite a bit of players busted for performance enhancing drugs in the past year, but none were because of marijuana.  The NFL could be changing their stance on the recreational use of marijuana soon, but isn’t it a coincidence, that both states will benefit in another way from the legalization?

Initially, the NFL shrugged at marijuana becoming legal in Colorado and Washington because it remained a controlled substance (and thus illegal) under federal law.  But as the substance gains more acceptance by the various states of the Union and in mainstream society, and as the potential benefits of the substance become better understood, the NFL’s ongoing desire to regulate player behavior away from the field that has no impact on performance eventually will look foolish.

Don’t be surprised to see the states making a big advertising campaign over the drug and the power it has.  I can see this being a huge sales pitch in both states, how about you?
