Saints RB Mark Ingram will be a hot commodity in free agency

mark ingramMark Ingram understands he might not be in New Orleans next season, and that is why he wants every carry.  Last night after he eclipsed 100 yards, Sean Payton sent in a replacement and Ingram tried to wave him out.  Ingram wanted more carries, because he understands he is playing for a contract.

Ingram seems to be playing with a chip on his shoulder after finding out the Saints declined his fifth-year option last off-season. According to NFL.com, Ingram could be a hot commodity.

Ingram is expected to reach the free-agent market in March, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday, via two sources informed of the running back’s situation. Per Rapoport, one scout who has studied Ingram believes the former first-round draft pick is finally realizing his substantial talent due to increased confidence and the late 2013 shift to an inside/outside blocking scheme that emphasizes his strengths.

He has rushed for 100 yards in his last two games and is finally getting it. With a 100-yard, two-touchdown game in the 28-10 win over the Carolina Panthers on Thursday, Ingram moved up one spot on the Saints all-time career rushing yards list, passing Craig Heyward for the No. 14 spot.

Ingram now has 1,893 yards, nine yards from tying Mike Strachan.

Ingram also passed Wayne Wilson and Ricky Williams in rushing touchdowns, tying Reggie Bush for the No. 10 spot with 17 career touchdowns.
