Packers WR Jordy Nelson is turning into an elite wide receiver

jordy nelsonFans may all have a difference of opinion when it comes to an elite wide receiver. Some may believe Calvin Johnson is the best receiver in the NFL (Which I do), while some might feel Julio Jones or Dez Bryant are considered elite.  Well people fail to give Jordy Nelson credit.  Through six games he has 34 catches for 525 yards and four touchdowns to add to his career statistics of 336 receptions, 5,115 yards and 40 touchdowns.

While those are not elite numbers, this year he has been one of the most consistent and amazing wide outs in the NFL. The Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers rely on Jordy Nelson quite a bit. Last week Aaron Rodgers put together a pretty impressive 4th quarter drive to win the game against the Dolphins, but who was the guy that made that possible? Yep, you guessed it Jordy Nelson.

Not only did he catch nine passes Sunday (out of 16 targets), for 107 yards, he  literally carried the Packers’ offense to a win. With the Packers taking over with 2:04 left in the game and down 24-20 to the Miami Dolphins, Aaron Rodgers didn’t pretend that Nelson was the go-to guy. With the Packers facing fourth and 10 from the Dolphins’ 48 yard line, and less than a minute remaining in the game, Nelson caught a huge conversion for 18 yards – the play of the game up until that point.

The Green Bay Packers were lucky to sign Jordy Nelson to a contract extension because his re-signing to a new contract this off-season has motivated Nelson, as his game appears to have taken on a new level.

P.S. – He is the NFL’s receiving leader as well with 632 total yards, which is a hundred plus yards a game.  Expect him to have another 100 yard game this week against the banged up Carolina Panthers secondary.
