NFL Draft Diamonds Prospect Interview: Dalyn Williams, QB, Dartmouth College

What is your name? 

My name is Dalyn Williams.

What is your Height/Weight?

I am 5’11” and weigh 210 lbs.

What is your position? 

I play Quarterback.

Where do you play college football? 

I played my collegiate football career at Dartmouth College.

Football is about giving back, what is the coolest thing you have done off the field? 

The coolest thing I have done off the field was support special needs kids from a nearby hospital as they participated in various recreational activities to raise awareness for their respective diagnoses.

What was the hardest college class you ever had to take?

The hardest class I ever took while at Dartmouth was Econometrics or the branch of Economics that aims to give empirical content to economic relations through the application of mathematics/statistical methods.

Where are you from? 

I am originally from Southern Louisiana but as of 11 years old my immediate family has resided in Corinth, TX.

Who is your role model, and why? 

My father and grandfather are both my role models. My grandfather is extremely selfless, hardworking and supportive. While also displaying those same characteristics, my father taught me to always strive for greatness; a trait deeply ingrained in my mental makeup. 

Did you play any other sports growing up? 

Growing up I played baseball since the age of three, giving it up in college. I did also play basketball in middle school until my Freshman year of high school.

Did you play any other positions in football? 

My Sophomore year of high school I played WR, other than that year, no.

At your position, what separates you from others? 

My will to win, love for the game, escapability, ability to throw on the run, running ability, ability to make difficult throws and deep ball accuracy separate me on the football field from my peers.

When you are breaking down film, what do you look for?

When breaking down film, I am looking for the scheme the opposing defense runs, tendencies that show up, the talent level of their personnel and their reaction to a player of my similar playing style/or offensive style. 

Who was the toughest player you ever faced? 

The toughest player I have ever faced in college was Caraun Reid of the Detroit Lions. In high school the toughest player I faced was Mario Edwards of the Oakland Raiders. 

If you could compare your play to one player in the NFL who would it be and why? 

I think my play is most comparable to that of Russell Wilson. We have similar builds and while we both use our athleticism to extend plays, when necessary we can take off to gain necessary yards. 

What was the biggest obstacle in your life you had to overcome, and how did you overcome it? 

The biggest obstacle I have had to face in my life was losing my grandmother (father’s dad). She was beloved by everyone she came into contact with. I overcame it by accepting the fact she was gone and did not hurt anymore, coupled with the love of the rest of my family/friends. 

Do you have any pre-game rituals? 

I HAVE TO relieve myself of any bowel movements before any football game. That would have to be my only pregame ritual. I am not particularly superstitious. 

What is your biggest strength? 

My biggest strength is my will to win. I think the heart of a player is largely overlooked and something that cannot be taught. 

What is your biggest weakness? 

My strength is my weakness. I say that because it sometimes causes me to look for the big play instead of the safe, strategic, smart football play.

If I were a GM and gave you a second to sell yourself, what would you say? 

If you were a GM, I would say to you to choose me because I love the game, I am a smart football player (I understand the ins and outs of the game and how to attack a defense), I can make all of the throws, I am leader and the ultimate competitor. 

Who was your favorite player and/or NFL team growing up? 

My favorite team growing up was the New Orleans Saints. My favorite player was Donovan McNabb.

If you could have dinner with three people dead or alive, who would you choose? 

If I could have dinner with three people dead or alive they would be Malcolm X, Frederick Douglass and Barack Obama. 

What will be the first big item you buy once you are in the NFL?

The first big item I will buy once I am set financially will be a nice vehicle.
