New York Jets hire female defensive backs assistant
According to Leonard Greene of the NY Daily News, the Jets hired Collette Smith as their defensive backs assistant during training camp.
“I’m over the top. I’m humbled and I’m proud,” Smith said about the new gig. “This could have happened with any NFL team. But it just so happened that it was with my beloved New York Jets. This is bigger because of that.”
Smith played football in the Independent’s Woman Football League
“One day a woman will come to a football team, and it won’t be a big story,” Smith continued. “It’ll just be football. When that day comes I’ll be more honored and even more proud.”
