Interview with a small school hero: Joe Protheroe, FB, Cal Poly

Joe Protheroe is one of the most underrated players in the FCS.  He is a dog for Cal Poly. He is a dominating force, that has a nose for the end zone.  I think if you are looking for a sleeper Joe Protheroe is guy that has averaged 120 yards a game last year.

This year you can expect the 6 foot, big back to continue where he left off in 2018. He will be a draft pick likely in the mid rounds.

What is your main goal going into your final season?

Personal: beat the school rushing record(15,067)

Team: Get a ring with my brothers.

As a small schooler, how are you planning to separate yourself from the other big school players?

Work harder than they do. I keep the fact that I was overlooked out of high school in the back of my head. Its what fuels me.

Who is the toughest player on the opposite side of the ball you have to face in practice?

Fino Elisaia

Who is the most underrated player on your team?

Fino Elisaia & Kyle Lewis

What’s your best memory of college so far?

My daughter Jordyn was born a few days before we played USD. I was determined to have a good game and I did.  Thats also s/o to my O line!

What is the most memorable play so far in your career?

Against South Dakota State, my 70+ yard TD. As I ran down the field, you could see the whole sideline flowing with me. It felt like I put the team on my back as it was the go ahead score in the 4th quarter.

What is the coolest thing you ever did off the field for someone else?

I tend to help the homeless whenever I can. I don’t judge because I was once in that position.

Why did you pick your current number?

When I was young I looked up to reggie bush when he wore number 5 and dominated at USC.

If an NFL GM was reading this (Which they do), how would you sell yourself in a couple sentences?

I’m determined and humble. Just trying to do what I love and put food on my daughters table.
