NFL Draft Diamonds Prospect Interview: Garrett Hudson, TE, University of Richmond

What is your name?

Garrett Hudson

What is your Height/Weight?

6’4″ 245 lbs

What is your position?

Tight end

Where do you play college football?

University of Richmond

Where are you from?

Wake Forest, North Carolina

Who is your role model, and why? My dad, because he works extremely hard to provide for our family and made it a priority to take me to practice, coach me, pay for training, and ensure that I had the tools necessary to work hard and succeed.

Who was your favorite teacher?

My favorite teacher was my senior year English teacher, Mr. Walters

Did you play any other sports growing up?

I played basketball, baseball, soccer, roller hockey, and ran track.

Who was the toughest player you ever faced?

We have played against some really good players. I would have to say Tanoh Kpassagnon from Villanova, Pat African from Colgate, or Micah Kiser from UVA.

Who is the most underrated player on your team?

I think that another guy in the tight end room, Stephon Jacob, is a really good player. We run a spread offense and throw the ball 40 times a game, so we don’t run as many two right end sets as we have in the past, but he is a great blocker, runs well, and has a high football IQ. I’m excited to watch him step into the role of starter next season.

What is the one song that would fire you up before the biggest game of your life?

Knuck if you buck by Crime Mob

If you could compare your play to one player in the NFL who would it be and why?

Travis Kelce or Zach Ertz. We have similar builds and use our athleticism to make plays in the passing game and block in the running game

What was the biggest obstacle in your life you had to overcome, and how did you overcome it?

I would say that starting at UNC as a walk-on and having the coaches that recruited me leave for another school was tough. They had a plan for me and the new staff did not plan to develop me and use me the same way. I basically made a spur of the moment decision to transfer after my redshirt freshman season and Richmond turned out to be a great fit. I definitely learned a lot about myself during that whole process.

Do you have any pre-game ritual?

It’s kind of weird, but I have to wear different socks, cleats and undershirt to warm ups and I change into my game stuff right before kick off.

What was the most memorable play of your collegiate career?

I would say either scoring my first touchdown at JMU in 2015 when we beat them on college game day, or scoring a 55 yard touchdown against North Dakota State in the playoffs in 2015 and the whole Fargo Dome went silent.

What is the coolest thing you ever did off the field for someone else?

When I was at UNC some of the guys visit the children’s hospital every Friday and it was really cool to be able to just put a smile on a kid’s face when they are going through a tough time.

Who was your favorite NFL team growing up?

Carolina Panthers

If you could have dinner with three people dead or alive, who would you choose?

Jesus Christ, George Lucas, and Travis Kelce
