Former NFL players are excited about the “FXFL”

fxflThe FXFL is a new developmental league hoping to land a deal with the NFL.  They have teams in Brooklyn, Boston, Omaha and Florida, and there are some players extremely ready to get another shot in the NFL.

I talked to several players that will be playing in the FXFL who were pretty solid players in college, and had pretty decent NFL careers.

Today I spoke with Vernon Kearney, the former Lane College cornerback who is amped up to get another shot to play football. Vernon was recently with the Kansas City Chiefs and had previous stints with the Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns. This 6’1 cornerback with sub 4.4 speed is ready to make an impact to improve his status with the NFL. Yesterday Kearney worked out with the New York Jets, and he hopes by playing in the FXFL he will improve his chances of playing in the NFL.

I asked Vernon, What are you hoping to accomplish in the six weeks of the FXFL?

“I am excited to play for Brooklyn, and to be honest with you I want to become a better all around player in the FXFL.  – Vernon Kearney – Brooklyn Bolts

We also talked to Keith Lewis another cornerback from small school USA. Keith played at Virginia Lynchburg a small D2 school where the 6’1 corner ran a 4.31 forty yard dash and impressed NFL scouts enough to land him in Tampa Bay.  He played with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this preseason and had a very good camp. He did not make the 53 man roster, but he is excited to play for Omaha.

“I am ready, I have a chip on my shoulder. The FXFL gave me another opportunity and I am beyond excited. Taking fully advantage of what’s going to be thrown at me in the film room mostly so I can apply it to the NFL once I’m in there again. I also want to work on technique better not just depending on speed to make up for everything I do” – Keith Lewis – Omaha Mammoths

Kyle Auffray has been working extremely hard to get another shot at the NFL. He has been on several teams and worked out for many, but the former New Hampshire tight end, will not stop until he makes it back to the NFL.

“It gives me an opportunity to continue my career, get on the field and get some high quality game film.  I am hoping to get picked up by an NFL team, and hopefully before 6 weeks.  While I am here (Brooklyn), I will use this platform to work on my skill set, stay in great football shape, and learn from the coaches and former players involved in the league.  A great opportunity to play and grow as a player.” – Kyle Auffray – Brooklyn Bolts

Former Super Bowl Champion Adrian Hamilton knows a thing or two about winning, especially when you look at his ring finger and see that huge Baltimore Ravens Super Bowl ring.  He too is excited about putting on the Omaha Mammoth’s helmet.

I’m excited to play football again most importantly. It’s a plus that my competition is NFL caliber players which all 32 teams will see me play against again. I’m treating these next couple weeks like a preseason, giving me the opportunity to advance back to the NFL.  – Adrian Hamilton – Omaha Mammoths

We also spoke with former Sam Houston State All-American running back Timothy Flanders who is ready to take his talents to Omaha.

The opportunity to get a chance to play for a team and with players who are trying to accomplish the same goal. I am blessed and cannot wait to meet my new teammates and coaches. I also cannot wait to meet the fans of Omaha and play in front of the city. I’m trying to get film for myself at running back and on special teams, but more importantly I want to win.  – Timothy Flanders – Omaha Mammoths

Lastly, we spoke with Qua Cox. Cox is a former stand out from Jackson State who was in Indianapolis with the Colts in the preseason. Here were his answers.

Why are you excited to play in the FXFL?

Because the greatest glory is when the desire to succeed, knowing that failure is not final.

What are you hoping to accomplish in the six weeks?

Outshining the fear of failure and releasing the beast of my natural talent by any means.
