The first week was filled with excitement for the lesser known teams

jjwattThree 2013 playoff teams lost to teams with .500 or less records last season on Sunday. The Houston Texans, Atlanta Falcons, Minnesota Vikings and Buffalo Bills, who had a combined 17-46-1 record last year, each started the year off with a win. Five games saw halftime leads of ten points or more relinquished by the end of regulation.

Our leading rusher is Knowshon Moreno, the New England Patriots were crushed and could not come back, and Ray Rice is cut.

The first week of the NFL has been a train wreck.  While I am so excited it is back, it was a wild week. Who would have thought the Jacksonville Jaguars would have the Eagles on the ropes 17-0 in the 2nd quarter and let the Eagles come back to beat them by 17?

Or how about Fred Jackson leading the Buffalo Bills in overtime on a huge stiff arm that the entire city of Chicago felt?  The Bills became only the 19th team to ever travel to another city and beat that team in overtime when they are on their home turf.  That is a huge win for the Bills.

Before we go and start naming the Houston Texans the next playoff contender, we need to let week 1 pass, but if it keeps going the way week 1 played out I would be a happy camper.

For all we know, the Houston Texans could be the latest team (see 2013 Kansas City, 2012 Indianapolis) to go from the league’s worst record to the playoffs from one season to the next.
