Both Liam Eichenberg and Carlton Martial are two players the Eagles need to keep an eye on.

It is never too early to look ahead to the 2021 NFL draft. Although we are on week 2 of the young season, the combine, and player evaluations will be here in no time. Looking over the Philadelphia Eagles, roster, one would be hard pressed to find many holes. This year the birds decided to get younger, and with next season’s cap issues looming, it is necessary for Howie Roseman, and company to find another group of young guys to add to the roster.

Each week I have decided to look at 2 players, one offense and one defense, that could be of interest for an NFL team. This week we will cover the Phialdelphia Eagles, obviously.

Offense: OT Liam Eichenberg (Notre Dame) VS. South Florida

Standing at 6’6, weighing 310 pounds, and moves like a dancer. The Cleveland, OH, native is built different, and when you see him in action you see why. Set with smooth hips for a big man, a strong base, to help in the run game, and a nastiness to him, that most coaches love in their lineman. Strong, heavy handed punch and the point of attack, the senior Irishmen was named to the Joe Moore award watch list, mid-season last year. What might be the most impressive about the big man, is his sneaky athleticism, when getting out in space, and chasing down second level victims. Although he has played his career at left tackle, he has the skill set to play both tackles, and possibly both guard positions. The Eagles drafted OT Andre Dillard, last year in the first round, but up until now, he hasn’t looked great. The skill is there, and the potential is high, but it’s hard to take the lead on injured reserve. Even if Dillard does work out, the front office would be right in looking for an infusion of youth, to an aging line. Given the right coaching, this lesser known kid, could be a complete steal for the birds’.

Defense: ATH Carlton Martial (Troy) VS. Middle Tennessee

Technically Martial is labeled a Linebacker, but due to his size, and athleticism, it is easy to see the young monster, used in many different ways. Despite his size, 5’10, 218 LB’s, Martial is an absolute animal in the run game. Smart enough to hit before he is hit, the undersized defender, has great eye awareness. His play recognition is another true strength as he diagnosis plays quickly, and reacts to make a play within seconds. Great on passing downs, he has coverage skills of a corner, and is capable of playing in the nickel if need be. Last season he boasted 114 tackles, 3 forced fumbles (1 recovered), 3 interceptions, 4 sacks and 1 defensive touchdown. Honestly give the kid 2 inches of height, put him on a division 1 team, and we are talking about a top-5 LB, in there media. The Eagles seem to have a bit of young talent as of now. The one thing in common with all the second level guys, is the athleticism they all boast. So if the Birds were to bring this kid in as a backer, he would fit right in. No matter where they fit him in, give the kid a shot, and they could have a young star in the making.
