Eagles McCoy has more games under 25 yards this year than over a 100
LeSean McCoy of the Philadelphia Eagles went from being the man to backing up the man. McCoy has more games this season with less than 25 yards (3), than 100 yard game performances (2). This week former Eagles starter Brian Westbrook had some advice for the former Pitt star.
“It’s tough,” Westbrook said of sharing time. “(McCoy) went from being the guy…I was the opposite way. I was a rookie, and then the second year I was part of the ‘three-headed monster.’ So I was getting my touches up. His touches are going down. It’s going to be tough for him, because he is used to touching the ball 20, 25 times per game.”
Westbrook’s ‘three-headed monster’ was more of an even split than McCoy is going through, but the concept was the same. Westbrook shared time with running backs Correll Buckhalter and Duce Staley during the 2003 season, and the trio were very effective, finishing with 1,613 yards and 20 touchdowns.
“(McCoy) has to understand that he has to be a quick starter,” Westbrook said. “He can’t wait to get in a groove, he has to get in a groove immediately. It’s tough to do when a guy is used to carrying the ball (all game).”
