Draft Diamonds Prospect Interview: Terrance Cobb, RB, Cumberlands (KY)

Terrance Cobb is a true small school sleeper, because he played at a very tiny NAIA school in Kentucky called Cumberlands.  Cobb rushed for an amazing 1991 yards on the ground last year scoring 26 times. In 2012 he earned BSN offensive player of the year. Cobb was injured this year but still was able to rush for 540 yards and six touchdowns in 3 games started. Cobb should be a camp sleeper in 2014.

How many teams were recruiting you out of high school?

Tons of teams recruited me out of high school Tennessee, Ole Miss and others. I choose Jones junior college in Ellisville Mississippi, I picked them to play and get my grades up to get into a university.

What are your goals for your senior year?

My goals as a senior were to break the schools rushing record and the NAIA all-time rushing record. Broke the schools but not the NAIA’s record, an injury ended my season early. My other goal was to win a national title and become the best player I could be.

Have any scouts met with you, and if so what are they saying?

This year I met with around 35 scouts 28 teams were represented between them all and we just talked about enjoying this process. We also watched over some film and got a little more background on my life and history athletically.

At your position, what separates you from the others?

At my position my speed and size separates me from most and my ability to anticipate runs combined with my vision to see the hole.

Tell us what you look for when breaking down film?

When I break down film I like to see players tendencies and in pass pro how often a team blitzes and what formations the like to do so. I like to see who the best players are to see if there might be cut back opportunities on a certain player’s size.

Who was the toughest player you have ever faced?

During the week I watch countless amount of film. In high school I faced Randall Cobb and also Harrison Smith both of which were very good players and both of them were tough.

If you could compare your play to one person in the NFL who would it be?

In the NFL I compare myself to nobody I have a unique ability to adapt to any offense we ran the veer in college but a little spread option in the gun but I can line up almost anywhere on the field and become a match up nightmare.

What was the biggest obstacle in your life you had to overcome, and how did you overcome it?

The biggest obstacle I’ve faced has to be this year being hurt not being able to help my team win games and also having been over looked because I’m not playing has to be the hardest.

What system fits your style of play the best?

The system that fits me best is probably ace formations or I-formations because I can oppose my will on the defense but I’m also experienced in the read option so I’m very talented in that system as well.

What is your biggest strength?

My biggest strength is my ability to make big plays when it counts I think I have what it takes to come through in tough situations.

What is your biggest weakness?

My biggest weakness is my raw skills need to be polished up on some certain aspects in my game such as route running.

If I were a GM and gave you a second to sell yourself, what would you say?

To sell myself to a GM I would say this I’m hard working young and willing to learn a system and do my best to perfect it and also I’ll do the dirty work for a team to win. I’m a winner and I’ll do what it takes to win not just on Sundays but through the week and my character will not be in question.

Growing up, who was your role model?

My biggest role model was Reggie Cobb my older brother he was a great running back and I want to follow behind him and be better than he was.

Who was your favorite team and player in the NFL and why?

My favorite NFL team is the cowboys I love them and favorite player ever is Barry Sanders great running back and I loved the way he played the game.

What was the most tragic event that ever happened in your life and how did you overcome it?

Most tragic event was growing up with little means of growing up in the projects of Knoxville tn. between the drugs and, all the other stuff going on. Football helped me overcome that stuff and keep my nose clean for the most part.

If you were to have dinner with three people dead or alive who would it be?

The three people I would have dinner with are Adrian Peterson, Barry Sanders, and Walter Payton. That would be a great experience.

With your first paycheck what would you buy?

With my first pay check I would probably bank it and frame the check to be honest.
