Colts should be working the phone lines to land C.J. Spiller
The Indianapolis Colts are not afraid to pull the trigger before the trade deadline. Their team is special right now, but they truly lack a running back. If they were able to add another weapon like C.J. Spiller to their attack they could be an unstoppable weapon in the NFL.
In each of the last two years, trades have worked out for the Colts. In 2012, they sent a 2013 second-round pick to the Dolphins for cornerback Vontae Davis. In 2013, they sent a 2014 first-round pick to the Browns for running back Trent Richardson. Neither came at the late October deadline; Davis arrived in August, and the Richardson trade happened in September.
Well today, Jim Irsay said he is monitoring the players available and would not be afraid to pull the trigger again.
“Obviously we’re taking it a game at a time, but this week Ryan [Grigson] and Chuck [Pagano] and I met and talked about anything we can do before the trade deadline [or] past the trade deadline in terms of having some young, ascending players who might be able to help us. . . and do whatever we can to get that edge,” Irsay said, via Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star. “Obviously health is going to play a big role in how we move forward. If we can stay relatively healthy, I think this team really has something special. That’s what I’m focused on. It’s exciting to see.”
The Buffalo Bills do not have a first round pick next year and have Bryce Brown just waiting to get a snap. The team could easily pull off a trade and land a second from the Colts. If the Colts can give up a second for Spiller they automatically become a favorite of mine to win the Super Bowl. What do you think Colts fans?
