Can Seattle Seahawks have a second coming of the “BeastQuake”?

Do you remember the last time the New Orleans Saints played the Seattle Seahawks in the playoffs? I DO….

Well two University of Washington seismologists have installed the devices, to augment an existing station, in hopes of accurately recording the ground shaking that takes place in the NFC divisional round playoff game between the New Orleans Saints and the Seattle Seahawks.

Seattle running back Marshawn Lynch’s dramatic 67-yard touchdown run in the playoff game three years ago between these two teams brought such a roar from the sellout crowd that seismic activity registered in and around the stadium.

The Pacific Northwest Seismic Network is preparing a special website to display seismograms during the game. The scientists hope to record similar shaking during Saturday’s game to better understand how the stadium responds to the activity, and to measure the energy transmitted to the ground within the stadium and within the surrounding neighborhood.
