Browns Gipson feels he can have a field day on Ryan Mallett
“As a person and a player, I’m confident I can do what it takes to get back on the field,” Gipson told Cleveland.com. “How soon would that be? I don’t know. Hopefully soon enough to play against Ryan Mallett, man.”
Gipson has studied Mallett and thinks he’s talented, but he also thinks any quarterback in his first start is going to make the kinds of mistakes that can lead to Gipson adding to his NFL-high interception total.
“Yeah, man, it’s fun playing a first-time quarterback anytime,” he said. “Any quarterback I feel I’m capable of getting reads and getting jumps on, but you get a first time quarterback, a lot of things will be different for him. . . . Any time you get a first-time player you have to make him earn every throw they get. I think that’s going to be tough on him. He’s a big guy. He’s tall, which is going to allow me to get good reads on him. I could see his eyes just like he can see me. He has a strong arm. Make no mistake about it. He can make every throw. He can probably throw the ball from goal line to goal line, so you have to respect that. He’s playing for a reason. He has good receivers that can take the top off. I respect their receiving corps. It’s going to be a fun day Sunday, so I’m looking forward to being out there. Everything else is in the trainers’ and doctors’ hands.”
