Bills defense is on pace to have 54 plus sacks 2 years in a row
Last year, the Buffalo Bills defense was nasty under Mike Pettine getting to the quarterback 57 times. The team had 3 players over 10 sacks and were led by Mario Williams with 13. 12 players on the defense record a sack last year on the Bills roster. This year the Buffalo Bills already have 24 sacks after seven weeks of football. They are averaging 3.42 sacks a game and Marcell Dareus is second in the NFL with 7 sacks. Both Jerry Hughes and Mario Williams who both recorded 10+ sacks last year have 5.5 sacks each.
The Bills are on pace to have 54 sacks this year, and are becoming the best defensive line in Bills history. The Bills have nine players already in 2014 with a sack. Jerry Hughes has been one of the best trades in Bills history. He has 20.5 sacks since entering in the NFL. 15.5 of those sacks are with the Bills defense. He was traded for Kelvin Sheppard two years ago and it was a blessing to the Bills. Hughes has found his knack again and is making it hard for opposing quarterbacks.
Next week the Bills face the Jets and Geno Smith. Geno Smith has been sacked 15 times already this season. That is not many to be honest. Kyle Orton has only played in 3 games for Buffalo and has been sacked 13 times. So do not expect too many sacks this week against Geno.
