Bengals sign former Buffalo Bill punter Shawn Powell

Today the Cincinnati Bengals signed Shawn Powell formerly of the Florida State Seminoles and an undrafted free agent signed by the Buffalo Bills.

After losing punter Kevin Huber to a season-ending injury Sunday night, the Cincinnati Bengals had to sign someone.

Powell joins the Bengals after having been released by the Buffalo Bills on Oct. 4, one day after Cleveland Browns return specialist Travis Benjamin returned one punt for a touchdown and was a tackle by Powell away from breaking another. Signed by the Bills in 2012 as an undrafted free agent, Powell hasn’t played for any other team.

As a senior All-American at Florida State, Powell led the nation in net punting with a 47.0-yard average. In two seasons with the Bills, he averaged 44.7 yards per punt with a net of 37.1. He appeared in only five games this season.
