“League sources believe the franchise prefers to move on from Rodgers, just as it once did with Brett Favre. Those sources also believe that Rodgers is well aware of the Packers’ feelings on the situation,” Adam Schefter reported Sunday.

The report says the move is driven by financial reasons, but is that truly the case?

Rodgers and the Packers missed the playoffs for the first time since 2018, with the offense playing without star wide receiver Davante Adams after Green Bay shipped him to Las Vegas for a package of draft picks.

Rodgers took a statistical step back in his age-39 season, throwing double-digit interceptions (12) for the first time since 2010 and the second-lowest yards-per-attempt mark (6.8) of his career.

Rodgers is paid a lot of money and if dealt the Packers would have some cap to eat, but it maybe worth it.

There are rumors swirling that Aaron Rodgers could be headed to New York to play for the Jets. Nathaniel Hackett was hired as the Jets OC and Rodgers has a good rapport with him.

The Jets could have to give up some draft capital to make this move happen. It would likely take at least two draft picks for the Jets to acquire him.

New York would also likely have to eat the cap hit of 15.8 million in 2023 and 32.5 million in 2024 unless they can get him restructured.

Peter King from SI.com said it best:

The Woody Johnson Jets, desperate for a star QB almost since the Broadway Joe days, would happily pay that freight, I’d guess. But would Rodgers accept a deal to the Jets? We shall see.”

We shall see, but it sounds like Aaron Rodgers out of Green Bay will likely happen.
