Broncos new head coach will not report to Broncos GM but rather the owner
Yesterday, Denver Broncos owner Greg Penner was clear that George Paton would have a huge role in picking the next head coach of the Denver Broncos, but he was super clear the coach would not report to Paton but himself rather.
“The new coach will report to me, which is a more typical structure in the NFL. Obviously, the relationship between the general manager and head coach is a critical one, and George is going to be intimately involved in this process of looking for a new head coach and we’ll make sure there’s a good fit there,” Penner said.
It makes you wonder if the Broncos owner could make a move towards Sean Payton who is assembling a staff that includes former Broncos coach Vic Fangio. I wonder if Penner would be willing to make the move knowing that Fangio was just fired by the team.
The Broncos cannot mess this up, Nathaniel Hackett was the worst mistake ever. They need to get this one right.
