Player Summary:

RS Senior. Originally signed with Georgia, transferred to Toledo, and transferred to Arkansas. Starts at WR.  Good receiver prospect with excellent size measurables, strong instincts and field awareness, and good deep speed to be a vertical threat that teams have to account for. Very tall and athletic frame with long arms and a wide catch radius. Good adjustment hi-low to the ball. Has great instincts –  does a great job of finding ways to get open in a short area and take advantage of soft spots in coverage. Was covered heavily v. BYU but still found ways to get open and scored two touchdowns. Is a good route runner who has a wicked double-move and good acceleration to be a vertical threat. Stands very high before the snap, would like to see him display more burst off the LOS and better initial quickness. Is a decent blocker; needs to develop better use of his hands in terms of placement and strike timing, but plays with a good base and manages to create space for runners. Hands can be up-and-down; had some opportunities in the games viewed where he could’ve made some big catches but the ball slipped through his hands. Needs to track the ball in the air better and tuck it away sooner on short throws. Does not have much after-the-catch; is more of a possession WO who tends to go down on first contact. Below-average with creating separation – had a tough time beating press coverage v. Alabama. Has a very thin frame and could add more weight in an NFL strength program.

Scheme Fit:

X/Z.

Power Statement:

Matt has great size measurables that cannot be taught. He is very tall, has a wide catch radius, and an uncanny ability to get open and keep plays alive for the quarterback. He also has good deep speed to stretch the field. I’d like to see him improve as a blocker, develop more consistent hands, better separation skills v. press and add weight to his frame.
