Player Summary:

RS Sr. Three-year starter at OC. Very versatile –  has played almost all positions on the OL during his career. Strong run blocking skills and above-average skills in pass pro to add value to an NFL team. As a run blocker, he is good. Quick first step and fires forward off the LOS. Is a good puller who can quickly get out of his stance and block in space. Has good balance, plays with good posture, knee bend, and forward lean without being a waist bender. Plays with good leverage and gets vertical push especially in short yardage situations. Good inside hand placement, especially in the run game, keeps his elbows tight when approaching defenders.  Very instinctive; can read and react to twists and stunts. Can chip and combo block with OGs to the 2nd level. Good mauler/finisher with a mean streak, good puller who can seal off the corner and create lanes. Could be more consistent with latching onto 2nd level defenders; just needs to work on strike timing. In pass protection, he is above-average. Gets walked back into the backfield too much for my liking; would like to see him anchor a little better. Plays with a good base in the run game but his stance narrows in pass pro; needs to keep his feet wide. On the plus side, he shows excellent instincts and on-field leadership. Reads and reacts to twists and stunts and is constantly looking for someone to block. Has quick feet and displays good lateral shuffle. Shows good recovery with his hands if beaten, and consistently works to the whistle. Flaws are fixable with time and coaching.

Scheme Fit:

OC

Power Statement:

Alex is average in pass protection, but he is a strong and very effective run blocker. His feet, first step, leadership and instincts are all strong qualities that will add value to an NFL team. He also adds versatility with playing experience at OT and OG as well.
